This year's Artist in Residence, Darden Smith, is an Americana singer-songwriter. He is on a concert tour supporting his new cd “Marathon”. He’s from Austin, Texas and this is his second release from his own label.
Mr. Smith spoke to the students about how to “be an artist.” He suggested that the secret of being an artist was to “use all your senses to enjoy things” and to “be happy in what you do, and do something in life that makes you happy."
Intermediate students helped Mr. Smith write the lyrics to the songs which they sang and recorded below.

Beginnings and Endings
by A. Farabaugh
Beginnings and endings there are many
End of the segregation, beginning of a new generation
Generated by a great force
Ideas help us start a brand new course
Never doubt it, change is always aloud
So make some changes and be proud!
A face unseen can change the world
Nothing could go wrong, but a new idea may be unfurled
Doubtful about a change you need
Endings of horrible deeds, this is what I plead
Nothing can stop us from helping out
Do everything in your power and don't pout
So things begin and then they end it's the
best for the world when
beginnings begin!
