With an emphasis on respect, good sportsmanship, and always trying their best, Athletics are an integral component of our students’ well-being and emotional and physical development. Whether in our Physical Education classes, on the playground during recess, or in organized sports, we place a high value on making sure all of our students are afforded the opportunity to participate and grow in this valuable arena.
Grades 3-8 Players Registration
St. Thomas More is utilizing an online registration process for our basketball program through Blue Sombrero. All returning, as well as, new players must register on this site to participate in the basketball program. If you experience any problems with the online registration, please email Jimmy Muller at email@example.com.
STM Youth Basketball is open to boys and girls grades 3 through 8 who are members of St. Thomas More Parish or attend STM School. Registration is held on a first-come, first-serve basis as team sizes are limited. Practices begin in October and take place once per week for one hour. Some upper grade teams have extended practice times or an additional day of practice. Schedules based on number of participating teams will be published shortly after registration has been completed. The season consists of 10 games, beginning in November. Grades 5-8 also participate in an end-of-season tournament. Participants must either be a member of STM parish or attend STM School to be eligible to play.
If you are interested in helping with the program or need more information, please contact Jimmy Muller (firstname.lastname@example.org or 404-373-8414).

Girls on the Run (GOTR)
Girls on the Run (GOTR) is a positive youth development program that inspires 3rd thru 5th grade girls to stay true to themselves and live free from social stereotypes. The concept is the brain child of Molly Barker, a North Carolina native who wanted to create a program to help young girls grow up with a positive self-image and a love of physical activity.
The fall and spring seasons each cover different topics and lessons. Subject matter ranges from nutrition, to confidence in themselves and their beliefs, and discussions about bullying. After the lesson, the girls train together for a 5K race at the end of the 10-week season. At STM, the GOTR always find a worthy individual or charity for a race dedication. The group collects items or money to help that cause. Past seasons’ recipients include PAWS Atlanta, Shepherd Spinal Center, Beacon of Hope, and the Wounded Warrior Project.
These city-wide Girls on the Run 5K races are always exciting and uplifting. There is music and dancing and lots of joy! All the GOTR from all over the city wear their GOTR t-shirts to the race and often (for STM always) add some team bling. As we say at every meeting — Girls on the Run is So Much Fun! Girls on the Run is Number 1!
St. Thomas More invites girls who are currently in grades 4-7 (rising 5th-8th graders) who attend St. Thomas More School or are members of St. Thomas More parish to play volleyball. STM competes in the Catholic Metro Volleyball League, and the season runs from mid-July through early October, with two practices per week and matches on Saturday mornings. No experience needed!
Registration will run from May 21,2017 – June 18,2017 and is online at the STM athletics website: http://leagues.bluesombrero.com/stmga (registration tab).
There is an opportunity to try on uniforms on Sunday, May 21,2017 from 1-3 pm. In addition, we will hold an open gym at this time for girls who might be interested but want to see what volleyball is all about as well as for returning players. Additional open gyms will occur over the summer. It is highly recommended to try on the uniforms to ensure proper fit (uniforms run small). Please contact Mary Wagner with any questions.
We are looking for coaches, no experience needed, so if you are interested, please contact Mary. We are in high need for 5/6th grade coaches in order to meet the demand for teams at STM. We will provide training and support! Coaches will need to undergo Virtus in person training through the archdiocese.
