Pizza Planning.
Mmm.
Introduction
Chef Ma Mamia has a large order to fill; it’s
the
church’s annual pizza party and he needs to give enough pizzas to feed
500
hungry parishioners. You must find out the amount of pizza it will take
if
certain people eat certain amounts of slices.
When you are through with this webquest, you
will
be able to answer the following questions: How can slices of pizza
relate to
and help you better understand fractions? How do you multiply and add
fractions
using special things (pizzas)?
Task
You
will decipher how many fractions make up a
whole, and learn about adding and subtracting fractions
by
using pizzas.
Process
-
On this
link you must
get a score of 80% or above to get the party participants satisfied
- MY QUESTIONS! Using the weblink below, find
out the cost of a large pizza with 7 toppings of your choice and write
it in
the space provided on the worksheet here.
Each large pizza has 16 pieces so you must figure out how many pizzas you need to order for 500 hungry parishioners if each parishoner eats 2 slices. Now multiply the number of pizzas you will need by the cost per pizza(Whew!)

Answers
The cost of a large pizza with 7 toppings is $21.75
For 1 slice of pizza per parishioner divide 500 by 16 which equals 31.25 pizzas
For 2 slices of pizza per parishioner, multiply 31.25 times 2 which equals 62.5 pizzas
To make sure each parishioner gets 2 slices you must round up from 62.5 pizzas and order 63 pizzas
The cost will be 63 pizzas multiplied by $21.75 per pizza which equals $1370.25
