Icon can be defined as a word that comes from the Greek language. Means simply image. Icons were started in the sixth century. The art of icon spread into the east. “In Russia icons became a very distinctive form of religious expression and contemplation.” Icons were painted by monks. “Different from the Western use of a canvas, an icon is painted on a solid woodblock with as many as 30 layers of color and lacquer.” Colors had to be fresh. |

My icon is Saint Michael The Archangel. The icon is located in the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament, to the left of the altar. The artist of my icon is Dorothy Thayne. |

9 Yet Michael the archangel, when he was disputing with the Devil in a debate about Moses' body, did not dare bring an abusive condemnation against him, but said, "The Lord rebuke you!" 10 But these people blaspheme anything they don't understand, and what they know by instinct like unreasoning animals--they destroy themselves with these things. |

This class was a fun class. I liked when we went on a field trip. I liked making our icon. The research was easy when Mrs. Kloer helped me. I did not like making citations. I enjoyed meeting Mrs. Thayne. Over all this class was a fun class. |
