v Some painter use egg tempera. That is when you add egg yolk, some water, and fine pigment. Then you start painting. The egg yolk is a substitute for glue. It holds together the water and pigments. The word comes from the Greek language icon which means “simply image.” It’s not just an image, it is a religious image. v Icons have an old tradition as a collector's object of Russian families v Stroganovs - gave orders for icons to cloister workshops v Empire was destroyed by the Islamic Turks and many works of art were lost forever.

Before this class I didn’t know anything about icons. The only icons I knew about were the one on the computer. I’m glad that I get to learn about all different kinds of icons. When I saw the video I could tell icons take a long time top make. There are many different types of styles when people make icons.
