Technology is a vital component in today’s learning environment. It promotes active participation, increases motivation, and provides more in-depth knowledge and technical skills necessary for real-world future academic and work experience. Technology resources at STM are provided for the purpose of supporting the educational mission of the School. St. Thomas More Catholic School is committed to helping the students build these skills, not only by providing a variety of hardware and software resources, but also by teaching them to analyze and evaluate the information they find on the internet to determine its value as a source.

The Partnership for 21st Century Skills maintains that “People in the 21st century live in a technology and media-suffused environment, marked by various characteristics, including: 1) access to an abundance of information, 2) rapid changes in technology tools, and 3) the ability to collaborate and make individual contributions on an unprecedented scale. To be effective in the 21st century, citizens and workers must be able to exhibit a range of functional and critical thinking skills related to information, media, and technology.”

Technology at St. Thomas More goes beyond the 31-station computer lab equipped with an LCD projector and Promethean ActivBoard. All of our buildings are networked so that each classroom is equipped with student computers and can share network and Internet resources. We also feature a campus-wide wireless network enabling students to use iPads and laptops. Our Primary and Intermediate Levels share mobile iPad labs and Chromebooks used to enhance classroom instruction.

St. Thomas More Middle School students participate in a 1:1 iPad program. They are provided with an STM issued iPad to use at school and at home to complete classwork and homework. The iPad enhances learning and teaching at STM. The iPads are issued to the students with pre‐installed applications (apps) selected by the classroom teachers.

The School’s goal in providing the iPad is to promote educational excellence: by facilitating resource sharing, innovation, research, creativity, communication, increased productivity, and mobile learning.

The computer lab is open after school on Mondays and Tuesdays from dismissal until 3:45 for students to work on school projects. Students must sign up on the sign-up sheet outside the lab 24 hours in advance.
