Athletics

With an emphasis on respect, good sportsmanship, and always trying your best, athletics at STM are an integral component of our students’ well-being and emotional and physical development.

Whether in our physical education classes, on the playground during recess, or in organized sports, we place a high value on making sure all of our students are afforded the opportunity to participate and grow in this valuable arena.

We are blessed to have an active parish with an established STM Athletic Ministry. St. Thomas More Catholic Church organizes and manages the sports listed below.

Also, a wide variety of additional middle school sports are available to our students through the local Catholic high school, St. Pius X Junior Lions Athletic Programs

Our MS Training Team is a new addition this year! Many of our middle schoolers are trying out for the local middle school spring teams that prepare them to play soccer in high school. Our Fall Training Team will give middle school players the opportunity to work with skills development coaches, improve their fitness through fun cross training, and to engage their new skills in game contexts through scrimmages and pickup games. This is an STM Athletics Program, run completely in house, but we partner with St. Pius, Marist, and other local schools who host the spring teams.

For more details, visit the St. Thomas More Catholic Church Athletics page.

Girls’ Volleyball games currently are played in the Catholic Metro Sports League (CMSL). All registrations, uniforms, and practices are independently run through the STM Athletics Programs. No experience needed!

Practice schedules vary and are dependent on coaching availability - schedule will be announced closer to registration time.

We do employ scorekeepers for games through the STM Athletics Program. Please contact us at athletics@stmga.org if you would like to register as a scorekeeper. Teens welcome to apply.

Winter Sports 2026-27

➡️Registration for all Winter Athletics opens August 15th.

The Kindergarten through 2nd Grade Coed Basketball program is a recreational league run by STM parent volunteers and is open to both STM students and parishioners. The program is 8 weeks long, 1 hour each week, on Friday nights only. Each Friday, there is a one-hour session broken into two segments: 30 minutes of practice, followed by 30 minutes of scrimmage against the opposing team. The overall goal is to introduce basic basketball skills such as dribbling, passing, and shooting the ball while also providing an opportunity to compete at an introductory level.

This program fills up quickly, so prompt registration is encouraged. Volunteer coaches and their children receive priority.

For more details, visit the St. Thomas More Catholic Church Athletics page.

Our basketball program is an STM Athletic Program, but our games are currently played in the Catholic Metro Sports League (CMSL).

We have teams for boys and girls.

This new winter program will be an STM Athletic Program that competes with the Decatur YMCA swim program. At this time, we are determining if we will only practice at the YMCA or if we will also be able to practice at the Agnes Scott pool. More information will be communicated in Fall 2026 regarding this program. Meets will be on Saturday afternoons.
