Pray It Forward

February 19, 2025
By Charlie Seamans, Assistant Principal

February is Black History Month, Valentine’s Day was Friday, Lent is around the corner, and Easter approaches, and we can all be consumed with thoughts about planning and preparing for what’s next.

As I chime in our moment right now, notice what arises as you SIFT your sensations, images, feelings, and thoughts about what you can control right now. We can always look to our prayer, what we can sacrifice, and what we can give to others, in this moment and the next.

So, as you connect with God in this moment, offer a kind thought for peace and wellness to someone whom you may not know very well (seated near you or across from you), someone who is, and will always be, a part of our human family.

As you notice the beauty and grace in your own life, think of something, some item or thing, and silently ask God to do with it what he wills, and pray for patience if you were to no longer have this treasure.

Lastly, notice what you can give to our family, right now. If you aren’t sure what you can give, your positive attitude, effort, and energy are within your control and these things are contagious! You can remind yourself of this by saying “Pay (with frequency and intention of love) it forward.”

I’ll chime out this moment, and you can return to this mindfulness practice anytime you need it, and I pray you all have a wonderful day.

Make Mercy Your Family's Way of Life

February 19, 2025
By Kelly Marriott, Religion Coordinator

Mercy is showing kindness, compassion, and forgiveness, even when others may not deserve it. Taught early, mercy becomes a way of life. Fill your family’s year with the compassion and kindness of this virtue:

Foster kindness. Grab chances to be kind. Teach youngsters to pitch in without being asked. Allow someone to cut in line. Walk away from an argument. Hug a sad friend.
Forgive quickly. Jesus said, “If you forgive others their [sins], your heavenly Father will forgive you” (Matthew 6:14). Followers of Jesus forgive even before we are asked. Better still, forgive as God forgives: fully and fast.
Practice mercy. Choose a corporal or spiritual work of mercy and perform it as a family. Feed the hungry at a soup kitchen, give gently used clothing to a shelter, pray for the dead.
Pray for mercy. Prayer is powerful. Together, pray, "Lord I am a sinner; come with your mercy.” Also, pray a Chaplet of Divine Mercy, a short, comforting prayer that can be said on regular Rosary beads.

Mindful Moments - Loving Right Right Now

January 16, 2025
By Charlie Seamans, Assistant Principal

Dr. MLK, Jr. said, “the time is always right to do what is right.” God provides this moment, and what is “right” can be realized through prayer and mindfulness. What “right” choices can you make right now in pursuit of God?

St. Ignatius reminds us that “love consists of sharing what one has, and what one is, with those one loves.” And that’s what’s offered to all of us, to take this right moment right now, and show love to others. This sharing means that we recognize the unique qualities, talents, and skills of others, we live alongside others, and we share power with others.

So, as you notice your breath in this moment, say to yourself, “love right” as you inhale, and as you exhale, say to yourself, “right now.” Do this 10 times in this moment.

Offer yourself this practice throughout the rest of January and beyond. Prayers for love, peace, strength, and wellness go out to you all.

Three Ways to Welcome God into a Busy Home

May 07, 2024
By Kelly Marriott, Religion Coordinator

Welcoming God into your home can transform it into a sanctuary of love and faith. Try these meaningful ways to invite His presence into your daily family life:

  1. Display heavenly reminders: Adorn your home with sacred art, crucifxes, and statues of saints. These visual symbols serve as constant reminders of God’s presence and love. Encourage each family member, especially children, to choose a favorite and visit it daily, building a personal, visual connection to their faith.
  2. Integrate Prayer: Begin and end your day with family prayer, such as a morning blessing of protection and bedtime prayers of peace. Say grace before meals and pray the Angelus. Praying together
    also solidifies your family's bond.
  3. Perform acts of service: Encourage acts of service and kindness. Children can take on extra chores, volunteer at church, gather and donate clothes or toys.

These actions reflect the love of the Holy Trinity and make your home a welcoming place for Jesus. By making God the center of your home, you create a vibrant domestic church.
